Colin FletcherColin Fletcher was born in Wales and educated in England. After six years' service in the Royal Marines during World War II, he went to East Africa in 1947, farmed for four years in Kenya and later surveyed and built a road over a virgin mountain in what was then Southern Rhodesia. In the 1950s he crossed the Atlantic and prospected in northern and western Canada. In 1956 he moved south to California. Soon afterward he spent a summer walking from Mexico to Oregon across California's deserts and mountains and later he became the first man known to have walked the length of Grand Canyon National Park within the Canyon's rim. Colin Fletcher resides in Carmel Valley, California.
