Columbus executed the original of this map around 1492. This facsimile is being issued in a numbered edition of 987 copies, and exactly reproduces the rich detail and ornamentation of the original (kept in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France). A specially made case protects the map, and its significance is explained in an accompanying volume of commentary by José Luis Comellas, Professor of History at the University of Sevilla.
