 Feast on Fisher's portraits of two French cities combined in one volume. Map of Another Town, her memior of the provincial capital of Aix-en-Provence, is, as Fisher notes, "my picture, my map of a place and therefore of myself." In A Considerable Town, she searches for the essence of Marseille in its streets, restaurants and history. "Talk is as steady as the fountains themselves, in Aix. It goes on everywhere, sometimes noisy but seldom harsh. Of course there are many people, at least in the cafés like the Deux Garçons, who never speak more than a word or two to the waiters, or sometimes only make one face or lift one finger to get their accustomed café with croissants, their noontime pastis."
