The moment Emil is back in Reykjavik, Havard, a drunken, violent lout from Emil's past, shows up on his doorstep. Not wanting to have anything to do with him, Emil does the only sensible thing he can think of: he hides under his bed. Havard then does the only sensible thing he can think of: he breaks into Emil's place, starts drinking all his alcohol, and hosts a party for all of Emil's friends. The Pets is alternately dark and hilarious novel that increases in complexity with each passing page.
